Slovenia's Amateur National Team Goalkeeper Jaka Zrnec (19) knocks Top Klub NK Maribor out of the Slovenian Cup.

Ljubljana, Slovenia - October 29, 2025 - Jaka Zrnec, the only 19-year-old goalkeeper and amateur player from Brinje, and also a member of the Slovenian Amateur National Team, delivered an outstanding performance in a dramatic cup match against the top Slovenian professional club NK Maribor, becoming a widely celebrated hero. This underdog story once again demonstrates the high quality of amateur footballers and underscores the importance of reviving amateur national teams.

In a dramatic match in front of 750 spectators, he first saved the decisive penalty from David Pejičić, which significantly influenced the course of the match. But that wasn't all: Zrnec himself stepped up to take the crucial penalty and confidently beat the experienced goalkeeper Ažbe Jug.

His skills and composure have not only thrilled the fans but also demonstrate his great potential to become a professional big goalkeeper. Zrnec has already impressively showcased his talent at the 2025 Amateur Nations Cup. All of this highlights the important role of the amateur national team, which provides talented players like Jaka Zrnec with a valuable platform to prove themselves and come into the national and international spotlight.

Bravo and congratulations, Jaka Zrnec! We are very proud that you played two matches for the Slovenian Amateur National Team at our Amateur Nations Cup 2025 and thus gave strength and momentum to our revived format.
